Tails of Happiness
Peyton/Gypsy
Gypsy ( formerly called "Peyton" ) has really made herself at home! She is a wonderful little girl doggie and I am so happy that I found her through the help of your organization! Gypsy and my first dog Bailey ( who was also rescued from a trip to the dog pound a year ago) get along great and spend most of the day playing with each other in my back yard.... they love "tug of war" and their own private "doggie pool" as you can see from the attached photos. We're currently working on "doggie manners" and leash walking, and Gypsy is making great progress in those areas....Bailey and I are really enjoying the company and playfulness of our new our new family member! Thank you so much for the work that you all do at Canine Companions to find homes for wonderful dogs like Gypsy! Jan
Bo Just thought you might like an update on Bo. He's doing great and we love him already. It took him a half hour to find a bed to sleep on. He most definitely was a spoiled boy before he was lost because he is perfectly house trained and very well behaved...and he sleeps with us on the bed at night. Our other dog Molly seems to like him a lot and they are having no problem adjusting to each other. He is very gentle with our boys and all the neighborhood kids that come through the house every day. He plays "house" with the kids (see photo) and is quite willing to accept all the attention we can give him. Thank you for helping us find our newest family member. Sincerely, Christine
Adam/Spencer We have had Adam (Spencer) for about a month now and I think he has excepted us. Yes he is a great dog but it's taken a while for him to relax and become part of the family. I think he feels that he is not going anywhere and he is home. For the first week and a half he never wagged his tail, but now he has taken over. Adam (Spencer) is a real character. He has so much going for him and very few negative points. As for the aggressive tendencies, There simply aren't any. He is very lanky and uncoordinated and has punched and slapped me several times while playing but he doesn't mean to hurt anyone. He just plays to win. He's A keeper. Thank you and your organization for everything.Jeff and Kathy
Regan/Amber Rose I thought you might like to see how beautiful Regan (Amber) turned out to be. She is the love of our home and has fit in very well with Punim (our older dog) and Shugs (the cat). She weighed 62 pounds at her last vet visit, she has been spayed and attended puppy school. She knows the difference between right and left on a shake, now how smart is that! We are crazy about her. Rest asured, shs is loved and well cared for. Peggy (Second photo provided by CCRC showing Regan/Amber at time of adoption)
Gloria/Gracie Let me tell you about Gloria's first week with us. The only thing that my family didn't like about her was her name so we have gradually changed it to Gracie. She now responds to it as if she'd had it since birth. Gracie has been too good to be true, we absolutely love her! She's smart, sweet, playful... everything we had hoped for and more. She was completely housebroken within a day, and obeys beautifully unless she sees another dog. Gracie has had daily opportunities to play with other dogs, both at the dog parks and at our home when my boys bring their dogs over. There is a wonderful dog next door, Sparky, who has become her best buddy and they play as often as possible. Gracie definitely has problems with some men; once we got her home she was leery of my husband for a couple of days. But with some work and patience, she's completely accepted him and greets him happily when he comes home. Fortunately, she had no problems with my sons, perhaps because they came here with their dogs and Gracie was too distracted to notice them. When she barks at other men, I've tried some leash work with treats for good behavior and that seems to help. As you had said, she loves children and bonds instantly with women; she's my shadow and never wanders far from me. We had a big party Saturday night and she was the perfect co-host. Gracie is fine in her crate, especially at bedtime when she can't wait to go in and curl up. And, of course, she does love her toys. As soon as I round them up and put them all her her toybox, she methodically pulls them out and redistributes them around the house. Another favorite activity is playing with the hose or sprinkler. Gracie jumps to catch the water and will put her mouth right on the sprinkler to snap at it. She ends up soaked and, in this weather, that's fine. I could go on but I think you get the idea. My husband and I had so recently lost our last dog, I wasn't sure if I was quite ready to fall in love with a new one. But Gracie has put the smile back on my face and I look forward to spending each day with her. Thank you for taking the time to help us get to know Gracie. Your organization does a wonderful job, my vet was impressed with care she'd been given. Perhaps we'll be looking for a companion dog in the months to come. We'll certainly check out your available doggies. Best wishes, Nancy Dalgleish (Images prvided by CCRC)
Heidi I just wanted to drop you an email on how Heidi's doing. I've attached some pictures of her having some fun. This last weekend she got to meet many dogs at the family reunion up at Sleeping Bear Dunes on Lake Michigan (pic included). It was almost a five hour drive there and back and she did great! We also went tubing with her on the river, she enjoyed it and loved swimming and playing with her adoptive Aunt Becky (the other dog in the pics). Her and Becky love playing for hours. Between that and all of the other activities Heidi is doing she's keeping pretty busy. Don't know if she's really potty trained yet because she won't beg to be let out, but I know when she needs to go so she doesn't have accidents. She likes going in her crate at night and only barks/howls when we have to leave her any time during the day if she isn't tired. Heidi came here an excellently behaved dog and I'm sure she'll only get better with more age/experience. Thanks! Dan Krist
Hunter/Woodson I'm Hunter's new mommy. We actually renamed him, his name is Woodson, my boyfriend is a big U of M fan. In answer to your questions, YES, I was very happy with the CCRC I have never adopted a dog myself. My parents always went to the humane society. But I was very pleased with everything. I have told numerous friends about the CCRC and how I strongly recommend it. Woodson is doing great!! He is very cuddley and spoiled. Were still working on his potty training, but that is all very understandable. He's very comfortable with his new family. He loves being the center of attention which he always is. My boyfriend and I take him on a lot of walks and he loves the Bark Park in Lake Orion. He's getting used to the water, so far so good. He hates to be alone, I often catch him peeking his head around the shower curtin while Im bathing. I've learned to just leave the curtain open so he can see me. He seems to like that a lot better. If I get up to go to the kitchen he does also. I honestly don't know what I would do without him. I love him with all my heart. You should see my office at work, everyone has pictures up of thier kids. I have my pictures of my son....Woodson. He is very friendly and loves kids. I know he will be perfect as a family dog when my boyfriend and I are ready for children. My boyfriend and I brought him up to Petco(in Auburn Hills, where we got him) last Sunday so everyone could see him and they couldn't believe how much he grew in just two weeks. I will for sure keep you updated and bring him up every couple weeks so you can see how beautiful he is. I took him to the vet to get his stiches out(where he got fixed) and he had already gained weight. We only had him for four days. He is growing like a weed!! Thank you so much for my new best friend!! love-Carrie and Woodson :) (Images prvided by CCRC)
Remi/Riley We would just like to thank you for Remi, now known as Riley. He has been a delight since the moment we adopted him. He has the best personality and he is helping my son, Michael, move on from our loss of Rufus 3 weeks ago. You folks have a wonderful operation and I can tell the dogs are loved. We will send you some pictures of Riley so you can see how he has grown. Thanks again Barbara Bryant (Images prvided by CCRC)
Libby We adopted Libby this past weekend and I just wanted to let you know how wonderful she is! She is such a sweetheart and just loves everyone - she follows our kids everywhere they go. No accidents so far either and loves her crate - her foster family must have really worked with her - she is just so good! So thank you again - she is a wonderful addition to our family! Nicole Brueckner (And later...) Hello, I just wanted to give you an update on Libby. She had adapted wonderfully to our family! She is a great dog, very loveable and smart - she can sit, roll over, lay down and shake already! We are looking forward to taking her to Wisconsin with us for Christmas to meet all her Grandmas and Grandpas and other doggy cousins. She is doing very well with our kids too. She definetely has a grown a lot too - the vets at North Oaks animal hospital say that it's hard to believe she was the same puppy that came in with mange. She has the most beautiful coat now and her hair has all filled in where is was missing in spots. I will never spend $1,000 again for a pure breed when there are so many pets in need! Thank you again for showing us Libby - she is a delight! Nicole Brueckner (Second photo provided by CCRC showing Libby at time of adoption)
Briar We just wanted to write a few lines to say thank you for Briar and what a wonderful addition he has been in our lives. Is cough is doing soo much better and he is already learning things I never imagined. He has mastered the sit, come, down and off commands. He is such a joy and an amazing personality. We and everyone else just adores him. He is receiving much love!!! He has his vet visit this Saturday. I have attached some photos that I hope you will enjoy. We love Briar soooo much!!! Sarah & Keri
Muffin/Sasha Here she is! We named her Sasha, she is doing great!! Sleeps all night in crate and NO crying!!!!! She is doing great on potty training too! She is great with both my kids and they love her too! Thanks for doing what you do so that we can have our Sasha!!! The Charboneau Family
Jeffrey/Bonzo We would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to adopt one of your puppies. Everything is going well for us. We adopted "Jeffrey" from the Husky/Collie litter. We have named him "Bonzo". Bonzo adjusted well to our family. He is the new "baby" in our home and is very spoiled by everyone!! We realized after the second night at home that he prefers to sleep with someone near by, so we moved him into my oldest son's room and ever since then he has slept through the night. He doesn't like to eat his food in a room by himself so my youngest son will either sit in the room with him or will move his food to where he is at. He is almost house broken, but prefers that we stand outside with him while he does his business!! Like I said, he is very spoiled and he knows it!! He is a very good dog, he is starting to listen very well. The only issue that we are having with him, which I'm sure is normal, is that he likes to bite when he plays with us, especially with my youngest son. We are telling him "no" and tapping his nose. If you have any suggestion with this that would be great. But overall, he was a great asset to our family. We are currently still using the vet in Clarkston. On our first visit to them, he received a puppy shot and he tested positive for worms. He completed his mediation and has a follow-up visit on the 3rd of November. Eventually, we do plan on using a vet closer to home (Commerce Township, if you have any referrals) but for now we will take him back to Clarkston for his next shot and a check-up on the worms. We have told everyone where we adopted him from explaining what we paid for him and that it included him receiving medical care, his first set of shots, being neutered, etc., and also included a free visit to the vet!! I have never adopted from another rescue group but while searching on-line to find a puppies we were interested in, we did find other rescue groups who charged the same, if not more, for the adoption but didn't provide all the health care to the puppies like your organization. Overall, we are very satisfied with the adoption and process. We are very pleased with the dog we selected. We love him very much!! Again we would like to thank you for accepting our application and giving us the opportunity to expand our family. (Photo provided by CCRC)
Clara We are so much in love with Clara, Clifford is too! Attached is a photo of her and Clifford watching out the front door! They love to play and get along very well. We are so happy to have found her! Thank you! Karen (Second and third photos provided by CCRC)
Simon Simon was one of my foster dogs and I just fell in love with him and I begged my mom if I could get him for my birthday. She said yes because she was in love with him too and we already knew that he got along with all of our other dogs. Him and our other dog Dakota go everywhere together. They are the only ones that play with each other and it is very funny. Simon is a very dopey dog but that is one of the main reasons why I love him so much. He sleeps with me everynight and I love it. Everytime I walk him my sister says that he must be part horse because he trots like a horse. He could be a show dog but I think that is too much wotk for him. All my dogs are very spoiled and I am happy with that. Simon was a perfect choice to go along with our family. Everyone loves him, too. Thank you so much CCRC for letting him become apart of our family. ~Erika Trent/Moses I just had to share our “Tail of Happiness” after reading through the other great stories on your site. My husband, son and I originally went to the Rochester Hills Petco to look for a dog to adopt. We had wanted a new addition to our family for ages, but wanted to be certain to make the right choice. We talked to Susannah, the Petco trainer and did lots of online research. However, when we visited the Rochester Hills location, we found a dog in your binder that was so adorable and looked so loving, we left and drove out to the Petco in Lapeer to meet him. Trent (now Moses) is our dream dog! We all fell in love with him at first sight. Moses is the sweetest, most loving dog. My son calls Moses his brother and they are practically inseparable now. Moses loves cuddly, family time and is enjoying romps in the backyard and walks on Paint Creek Trail. He has become such a part of our family in this short time. My mom came up with the name Moses because he seemed like such a gentle, old soul. It suits him perfectly. Thank you again!! Kim
Peggy/Lily Lily is the best choice I have ever made =) I am so happy that she is a part of our family now, I knew from the minute I looked into her big brown eyes she was my baby girl. She is such a tom boy though, she rolls in mud and chases the football with daddy, however, she likes to dress in all pink! (confusing hehe) She is by far one of the bestest friends I could have ever asked for and EVERYONE adores her and she is going to be going to nursing homes soon to visit, because we know she will warm their hearts the same way she does ours everyday!
Curly/Bentley We wanted to send you an update from Lafayette, Indiana with one of your dogs that was previously named Curly and has now been named Bentley by his new Mama and Daddy!! Although we're still going through the loooooong potty training process with the little squirt, he's really developed into quite the little puppy. I would bet that he could sleep in the middle of times square and then ten minutes later run and play for 10 hours straight. He's almost sleeping through the night, and we're cutting down on the accidents in the house! He still has a little trouble crying when we leave but we're working on that too....slowly but surely! Most of all Curtis and I wanted to tell you all what a blessing your organization is and what an angel you saved for us. Bentley is the love of our life and the perfect addition to our family. Our lives have changed since the little guy came into our lives and it's been a challenge to say the least but the best one we've ever been offered. Bentley's getting sooo big! Here are some pictures of our baby for your collection. Thanks again!! Forever thank you, Curtis, Summer and BENTLEY :)
