Canine Companions Rescue Center is run completely by volunteers, many of whom work full time. We will try to get back to you as soon as possible but sometimes it takes a little while so your patience is greatly appreciated.
Please browse the topics below. If the reason for contacting us is not addressed, please email us. Our dogs are in foster homes and we do not have a central location, so the person answering the phone can't answer specific questions about our dogs. Emailing allows us to forward your message to the correct person.
I want to find out if a certain dog is still available.
The list of available dogs on our homepage is up to date within a couple of hours. If the dog you are interested in is listed, odds are very high it has not been adopted yet. If it is not listed, email us to ask about availability, but while you wait for an answer others may be doing the application and getting ahead of you in line. It's always best to complete the application right away and ask questions later. You only have to complete one application with our rescue and we will apply it to whatever dog(s) you are interested in, now or in the near future.
I have a dog, or found a dog (or cat), and want to place it into rescue.
Strays should always go to the local animal control agency to give their owner the best possible chance of finding the dog. There are a ton of rescues like ours and an owner can't possible call them all, so please take stray animals to animal control, or perhaps the nearest Michigan Humane Society as that is where owners will look.
Please note, due to overwhelming need from local animal controls, we typically do not accept owner surrenders to our rescue. For people looking to rehome their dog, we use a service provided by Adopt A Pet to help people list their own dogs on the Adopt A Pet site just like we do. You create the listing yourself, they send you applications, and then they charge a small fee ($50 for dogs) which gets donated to our rescue. The whole process is in your control. Please go to this link if you wish to begin that process.
Otherwise, visit this site and put in your zip code to get a list of rescues in your area that may take owner surrenders. Every rescue tends to be overflowing with pit mixes, though, so if that is what you have it will be extremely tough to find a rescue that has room for one more. Your best chance for success with the bully breeds is to spread the word to friends, neighbors, and coworkers (use social media, among other things) so that someone who knows you and/or knows your dog might help.
I need to return a dog that I adopted from CCRC.
We have to evaluate every dog prior to taking it (back) into our group, even if it was adopted from our group. If you would like to return a dog adopted from our rescue, please complete this form and we will get back to you within 48 hours.
I would like financial assistance to get my own dog spayed/neutered.
We have a program called Paws Project to help people in nearby communities with the cost of spaying/neutering their dogs. When we have openings you can fill out a form found at the bottom of the Paws Project page. When we are booked for the next month or so we pull the form off the page until we have openings available again. If the form is not on the page, please check back periodically and when the form is there, fill it out and submit it.
I need some training advice.
We are happy to provide free training advice to our adopters, and anyone who is struggling with training issues, over the phone. Please email [email protected] so we can forward your information to one of our trainers. If your needs can't be addressed over the phone we will provide some other options to pursue.
For all other questions, please email [email protected] if possible, or as a last resort you may call (248) 834-9419.
