CCRC Volunteer Interview with Erica McCarthy:
1. When did you get involved with CCRC?2008. I really didn’t know what rescue was until one day I discovered my son and I could walk dogs at our local animal shelter. When we wanted to walk a pitbull mix dog, their rules were explained regarding bully breed dogs and how only rescues could help them. I started doing research immediately. I was able to find placement for that one and I was hooked. 2. How did you choose this rescuegroup? I googled some local rescues and they were the closest and friendliest. 3. Is this your first dog rescueexperience in terms of volunteering? If not, where else have you volunteered? Yes, besides walking dogs at my local shelter. |
4. Do you have a CCRC dog?
Surprisingly no. I already had 2 dogs at the time and I adopted one more from the rescue that helped me with the pitbull mix above. She is currently my only dog. My other babies have since passed and are waiting for me at the bridge.
5. How old and what is his/her name?
I have a 12 year old named Angel and she is the canine love of my life.
6.What breed is it?
Pitbull mix
7. What do you like most about volunteering?
The teamwork and the feeling of a village working together for the same cause. It makes my heart very happy.
8. What is your favorite volunteer activity?
Giving dogs baths when they leave the shelter and watching them run around the yard or hearing them snore from a comfortable sleep. I also enjoy when we get together and there are not dogs around and just having fun and relaxing conversation about brainstorming new initiatives. It gets me pumped to do more.
9. In what way has working with our dogs changed your life?
It gives me more purpose in life. I love seeing family’s complete with their new family member. Almost everyday I have poop on me somewhere, I have new scratches, I get very happy and very sad all within minutes, my heart breaks and gets put together daily. I have met such wonderful people and have dealt with the most awful people. It is a daily roller coaster from one extreme to the other but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
10. Have you been able to bring new volunteers into the fold?
Ha! Daily goal
11.We are always interested in constructive feedback and improvement so is there anything about our group or organization that you would like to see changed or modified?
I would love for every volunteer to foster 5 dogs at a time.
12. Have you ever suggested a new fundraiser that you created? Please provide details.
I leave the fundraising up to the guru’s- they do an amazing job, but I like to support them and help when I can.

Wendy Kopera!
Wendy has been with CCRC from it's inception and developed a vision for a rescue that was inclusive to all and worked tirelessly to place dogs of all shapes and sizes who are in need of homes with families who would love and care for them. Wendy's vision has been realized in CCRC's 14 years of great work in the Oakland County area. She has helped build the organization into a self-sustaining non-profit that saves over 600 dogs every year from euthanasia. Wendy's ethics and strong sense of right and wrong have shaped CCRC to be the well-respected organization that it is with excellent public perception and animal welfare reputation. Wendy is the backbone of CCRC's behind the scenes operation and takes care of finances, insurance and billing issues, data upkeep and also mans the customer service line. She personally helps adopters who are looking for behavioral help wherever available and counsels adopters and other clients on issues and needs. Wendy is the first point of contact for many of our adopters and is always available when needed. Even from almost 2,000 miles away, Wendy shows tireless dedication to CCRC, its dogs and its people. Please join me in thanking Wendy for her years of service and passion, we are so lucky to have her! |

Alex Provencher!
Alex joined CCRC in June 2017 and wanted to be as hands on as possible all the way from Canada! Many people do not realize the amount of moving parts that goes on behind the scenes to make this organization run on a daily basis. She jumped in and became an intricate part of the data entry team. Our organization finds wonderful homes for 600+ dogs a year, and Alex ensures all of the adopter's information is entered into our database properly. She also inputs all the microchip numbers for each dog as they receive them. These are all extremely important tasks and we are confident in Alex’s organizational skills and know she will get the job done correctly. Thank you Alex for joining the CCRC family, and we are looking forward to many more years of saving lives together! Please join me in thanking her for taking on a very important role in CCRC. |

Taylor Turnbull!
Taylor joined CCRC in November 2017 and has been involved in many aspects of the organization. She quickly became a foster and signed up for one of our harder to place dogs and helped prepare him for adoption. She has continued to foster and help out where needed. Taylor has assisted in rescuing dogs from local animal shelters, bathing dogs, and transporting to many different locations such as vet appointments, groomers, and foster's homes. If Taylor is available, she is always willing to help! She truly loves the dogs in her care. She even helps out with the poop pick up and yard work at the doghouse. She has stepped up many times for short notice emergencies and last minute errands. We are very grateful for Taylor’s commitment and passion for the dogs at CCRC, and we are looking forward to many years to come with Taylor as part of the CCRC family. Please join me in thanking Taylor for everything she does! |

Robin Garcia!
Robin began volunteering in July 2017 has quickly became an amazing team member. She is always willing to help where needed and is truly compassionate and caring with all the dogs she cares for. Robin has assisted in so many ways: from rescuing dogs from local animal shelter, helping at adoption and fundraising events, bathing dogs, transporting dogs, assisting with medical updates for our dogs, and helping with adoptions. You name it, Robin probably has helped in one way or another. In just a short time with CCRC, Robin has been a tremendous help with the dogs and we know we are truly lucky to have such a passionate woman on our team to help with our mission. One lucky CCRC dog even gets to call her Mom! Yes, she even foster-failed. We are looking forward to our future with Robin’s skills and are excited for the lives she is going to help us save in years to come. Please join us in thank you Robin for all she does for CCRC and the dogs! |

Mike Loesch!
Mike joined CCRC last year and has volunteered many times in a variety of ways for our group. He offers to transport dogs and puppies to educational events, Petco, foster homes, and appointments whenever he can. Mike has also made road trips as far as Ohio to pick up donated supplies for CCRC! He has volunteered to hold dogs at Petco and other adoption events numerous times and is great with the dog he is handling as well as the potential adopters. When CCRC holds fundraising events, Mike is often there to help set up or tear down and to talk with the people attending the event. He brings a positive energy that is contagious, and we really enjoy his presence at all of our events. Mike is constantly spreading awareness about CanineCompanions Rescue Center. We are lucky to have him as a part of the CCRC family and look forward to working with Mike in the years to come. Please join me in thanking Mike for all that he does! |

This month we would like to thank everyone that comes together to make this organization what it is. Animal rescue requires a lot of dedication and hard work, and CCRC could not do it with out everyone that steps up to help. Every little thing that you do MATTERS so much and we are thankful every day for each and every person who lends a hand, no matter how small it may seem.
Here is a partial list of the many "small" things that people have helped CCRC with over the past month:

Cathie and her 3 kids became Canine Companions Rescue Center volunteers in June 2017 and have been active members ever since. Cathie has stepped up to foster puppies and adults of all sizes; sometimes even multiple of each at a time. She volunteers to assist with transporting dogs and puppies to the vet and for incoming dogs when she is able. This is a huge help for the rescue! She has participated in and helped at fundraising events as well. Cathie has a positive attitude and is friendly with other volunteers and the community. She has taken the initiative to reach out to local businesses to help raise money for the dogs and is also doing an amazing job at leading the first shoe drive that CCRC is participating in. Detorit Pit Crew has rescued hundreds of homeless dogs from the streets of Detroit. They have spent countless hours saving dogs and puppies from lives of neglect and struggle. Their dedication and compassion are inspiring and we are so glad to have been able to partner with them. Over the past two years, CCRC has fostered and adopted out over 250 dogs rescued by Detroit Pit Crew. Amazingly, this is just part of the total dogs saved by them. Lori Lammon!
Lori joined CCRC as a board member in early 2016. She jumped in with both feet, and she has worked non-stop at fundraising ever since. Lori's ideas, and her persistence at seeing them through, has resulted in a tremendous increase in our fundraising income. Lori also spearheads many events throughout the year where she sells our merchandise and gets the word out about our group. She played a large role in developing the ultimate concept of Paws Project, and getting it off the ground and running. Lori has found a number of new opportunities for CCRC and is always looking for ways to help us become bigger and better. She dreams big and she pursues that dream, to the benefit of us all. One of our wonderful, senior dogs named Molly is fortunate to have found a furever home with Lori. Please join me in thanking Lori for all her hard work and dedication to the dogs! |

Kathy Siebert!
Kathy, her husband Todd, and son Christopher joined CCRC in 2011 and have been active in almost every aspect of the organization since. Last year CCRC kicked off Paws Project, which is a program that financially assists families in need to spay/neuter and vaccinate their dog(s). We also assist families with dog/cat food when we are able. Kathy is the administrative backbone for the program and coordinates all of the scheduling and communication with the families and vet partners. This is a huge responsibility for Kathy, but her passion for the mission of the program makes her a great representative. Kathy has a full time job, a family, 2 rescue dogs, and grandkids and still finds time every day to devote to the Paws Project mission. With Kathy’s help, Paws Project has fixed almost 100 local dogs!! Please join me in thanking Kathy for her dedication to keeping dogs with their families and out of shelters. We look forward to many more years of teamwork with Kathy and her family! |

Jacki Allen!
Jackie has been part of the CCRC family since June 2016 (Happy Anniversary Jacki). We met Jacki during the adoption of her CCRC dog, Raygan. She is a true animal lover and everyone clicked with her quickly. She is wonderful to be around and pleasant with everyone. Jacki and her husband have opened their home to a few very lucky foster dogs and have helped them find excellent homes. She owns PDQ signs and has donated her services to our organization in a variety of very helpful ways; she made a brand new banner for our CCRC events, made a wonderful banner for Paws Project, donated event signs, and made very cool car decals for our fundraisers. Jacki also helps at Petco adoption events by handling dogs and talking with potential adopters. We are very lucky to have Jacki as part of our team are excited for many more years of saving lives with her. Event Volunteers!
Thank you to all of the volunteers that support CCRC adoption events. Whether it is through fostering a dog, talking to people about CCRC/Paws Project, holding an adoptable dog, setting up and tearing down, taking pictures, or making awesome things to sell, CCRC appreciates each and every thing that you do. Being a volunteer-based organization means that CCRC could not exist with out the support of each person that has given up their time to make it a success. Sometimes it is not easy, but the work is so incredibility important, as each dog saved is one who will be loved and who will not suffer another day of neglect. Thank you to all of you who have helped CCRC!

The Cianfarani Family!
Kaissa, Michael and their kids joined CanineCompanions Rescue Center in August 2011 and have been an amazing resource for the dogs and our organization. They have opened their homes to a slew of pregnant mothers, both large and small, dozens of litters of puppies, and many, many adults of all ages and sizes. Kaissa’s patience with the foster dogs and puppies, and the situations she takes on, continues to amaze the organization. She is always one of the first volunteers to offer help when there is an emergency, whether it is a transport issue regarding a dog in need, a pregnant mom, or stepping up for one of the many urgent requests our organization gets. The family has a very positive attitude even in the most stressful situations, which helps out tremendously, and they are very enjoyable to be around. A very lucky mama dog named Shirley won over the hearts of the entire family and now is a Cianfarani! Shirley and their cat also help with the foster dogs. Between the family dynamic, and the animals, we get to learn so much about the foster dogs and it really helps with placement into forever homes. CCRC is very grateful to have such a passionate family as a part of the organization and to help with our mission. Please join me in thanking them for the amazing work they do daily for the dogs and the group! |
April 2017
Jaqlyn Grimm!
Jaqlyn joined CanineCompanions Rescue Center in July 2016 and has been a consistent volunteer and foster ever since. Jaqlyn and her family have opened their homes to dozens of adults and puppies needing TLC and she has jumped in two feet first with helping foster long-term medical dogs. They also have a wonderful dog that helps entertain the fosters and he is also very patient with them. Jaqlyn never hesitates to assist in the Macomb County area where she lives. She helps pull dogs from the shelter, transports dogs in need, and she also picks up dogs from the vet. She is an amazing foster and dog advocate. We know the dogs are in great hands when they are with the Grimm family. We are very excited the Grimm’s are part of CCRC and our mission and look forward to many more rescues in the years to come. Please join me in thanking Jaqlyn and her family for all that they do. |
March 2017
Joe Morton and Patrice Lacovoni!!
This amazing couple joined the CCRC family earlier this year and have been consistently at almost every adoption event at Petco. They donate their time every week to take wonderful pictures of our dogs that are up for adoption. They do a great job of highlighting an individual dog's beauty, which helps catch the eye of potential adopters. With the thousands of wonderful dogs available for adoption online, they go the extra mile to make CCRC dogs stand out. Joe and Patrice even visit foster homes to take pictures of the available dogs that feel adoption events are too stressful. We feel so lucky to have teamed up with such a dedicated and passionate couple. Their love for animals extends to cats as well! They also volunteer with a local cat rescue and have a lucky cat family at home that they love and spoil every day! Please join me in thanking Joe and Patrice for the great work that they do for animals! We are looking forward to many more years with you guys! |
February 2017
Michelle and Bob Keydel!!
Michelle and Bob joined the Canine Companions Rescue Center family in December 2011. Over the years, they have helped save hundreds of puppies and adults of all ages and sizes. They are true dog lovers and always treat their fosters as their own. They also have the help of their 4 beautiful dogs - teamwork at its best! Their skills and dedication to their fosters are very valuable to the organization because they are experienced and will always see their rescues through to adoption. This duo also does a lot of the behind the scenes work on almost every fundraiser CCRC does and they have recently joined the team in assembling the Strategic Plan for the future of the organization. Michelle and Bob bring a positive presence, and the volunteers enjoy working with them. CCRC is grateful to have them as a part of the team and we truly appreciate the years of dedication. We are looking forward to many more years with them as they help CCRC be the best that it can be. Please join me in thanking Michelle and Bob for all their hard work. |

Trisha Plovie!!
Trisha, along with her daughter Faith, joined CCRC in April 2016 and have been active volunteers ever since. Trisha and her family have opened their home to numerous adult dogs and puppies, sometimes with a very short notice! In addition to fostering, Trisha helps out at many adoption events and fundraisers throughout the year. Faith also helps in any way that she can to ensure that the puppies and dogs get all of the love, attention, and care that they need prior to being adopted. Trisha is always happy to help and brings a positive energy to those around her; the other volunteers truly enjoy working with her. Trisha is constantly spreading awareness about Canine Companions Rescue Center within her family, friends and work. We are lucky to have her as part of the CCRC family and look forward to working together with Trisha and Faith in many years to come! Please join me in thanking Trisha for all that she does! |
December 2016
Lori Place and Taylor Sloan!!
Lori Place, and her daughter, Taylor Sloan, are very special volunteers who have an exceptionally strong commitment to saving dogs and Canine Companions Rescue Center. During the time Lori and Taylor have been involved with CCRC, they have fostered many adult dogs and puppies. They have always shown special connections to all of their fosters and work hard to find the best placements for them. Lori’s professional life of being a painter has recently helped our organization again. Lori donated her time and materials to painting the outside and inside of a recently purchased facility in Oxford. This incredible act of generosity reflects Lori’s mission as a dedicated volunteer in our organization. They also have welcomed a CCRC dog, Rube, into their family. Rube is one lucky dog. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to these two amazing people. |
November 2016
Ali Mountain!!
Ali has been with CCRC since October 5th 2015. She has helped with several new CCRC dog mommies and recently helped with a hoarder case to get several of the pups and dogs ready for their forever homes. Her compassion and knowledge of dogs is shown in how she cares for her own dogs. She is always just a phone call away for vet visits, CCRC adoption events, and fundraising events. We can call her at anytime of the day or night to go to emergency vet visits and she is always there. She is a great asset to Canine Companions Rescue Center. We would like to Thank Ali for all of her hard work. |
October 2016
Carl Fleck!!
Carl Fleck, along with Connie Fleck and Wendy Kopera, founded Canine Companions Rescue Center (CCRC) at the end of 2004. Under his quiet and strong leadership, CCRC has grown substantially and saved the lives of close to 7000 dogs. Carl had responsibility for key facets of its operation until the middle of 2014 when our current Operations Manager, Erica McCarthy, took over day-to-day responsibilities. Carl’s roles for twelve years included: going to various animal controls to rescue dogs; making sure all were properly vetted; providing routine vaccines to all dogs; keeping medical records up-to-date; making sure CCRC was on strong, financial footing; attending adoption events; and last, but not least, fostering countless dogs in his home until their adoptions. These are a few of the myriad ways Carl has helped CCRC to grow to its current state. Carl’s recent move to Alabama prompted him to become involved in the local humane society there. He continues his involvement with CCRC by being on its Board of Directors. Carl has a long history of dog rescue that has spanned over 35 years and multiple states. He plans to continue this until he is no longer physically able. Rescue groups are all comprised of volunteers who do what they do to help dogs simply for the love they have for them. Carl is a shining example of what this means. |
September 2016
Wendy Kopera!!
Wendy, along with Carl and Connie Fleck, founded CCRC in late 2004. She has been instrumental in our success by sharing a myriad of talents with our organization. Wendy is our webmaster, answers CCRC phones, updates our database, answers emails, and is a key member of the CCRC Board. What’s even more amazing is that Wendy does this from Tucson, AZ where she moved in 2006. Wendy lived in MI for many years before moving to AZ. While here, she also fostered numerous dogs for our organization so you can pretty much say she has been involved in all aspects of CCRC’s success, including running day-to-day operations in our early years. Given all that Wendy does for CCRC, she also is volunteering with a rescue in AZ fostering dogs and does all this while working almost a full-time job. Her commitment to dog rescue is second to none. Wendy does have a personal life, which is hard to imagine given all that she does, and this includes sharing time with her two adult children and other commitments to her community. Without Wendy’s help and expertise, CCRC would not have been able to adopt the more than 6500 dogs since our inception. Please be sure and give Wendy a heartfelt thank you for her continued involvement with our group and her unwavering support to our cause’s success. |
August 2016
Jaime Martin!!
It is with great pleasure that we spotlight one of our newer volunteers, Jaime Martin, who joined us in December 2015 after attending one of our fundraising events. Jaime is married and has a full-time teaching job, but still manages to give countless hours to CCRC in addition to all her other personal commitments. She shares her life with her hubby and 4 dogs, one of which was adopter from CCRC. Jaime’s talents are numerous and fit nicely with all we try to accomplish in our organization. She brings dog training experience from years of working at Canine Academy. Jaime is currently organizing and volunteering at numerous events, transporting, helping to update our volunteer database, and publishing our monthly e-blast. It’s hard to imagine she’d have time to do much more, and yet she still finds time to help out at Petco some Sundays at our weekly adoption event. Jaime lives an active life (she regularly runs with her dogs and races) and shares so much of her time and energy in helping the dogs. Please be sure and thank Jaime for her selfless efforts in doing all that she does in making our organization one of the top rescues in Oakland County. |
July 2016
Michele Leroux!!
Michele has been a volunteer with CCRC for nearly three years. She has been very active at special fundraising events and was a key player in planning and running our participation in the Peacefest event this year. Michele has opened her home to both adults and puppies that needed fostering. One very lucky foster, Kia, got to call Michele's house “home”, along with Danni, a dog Michele adopted from CCRC in 2013. CCRC is very lucky to have Michele on our team to help save lives and promote adoptions. Please join us in thank you Michelle for all the hard work she does for the dogs and our organization. |
June 2016
The volunteer spotlight is generally a space to thank an individual for their compassion toward animals and willingness to help. This month CCRC would like to do things a little differently and take this moment to thank all who have contributed to our cause. CCRC is successful in helping so many dogs in need because of the people who come together and offer their time, money, support, and compassion. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do!
We are in need of more volunteers to help us with our mission. There are many ways to help ranging from fostering to helping out at events. If you can help CCRC please contact us! Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. ~Martin Luther King, Jr. |
May 2016
Jill Smith!!
Jill was one of the original founders and board members of CCRC, but in order to balance her love for animals with her career as Assistant Corporate Counsel at Macomb County she decided to step down from the board several years ago. Even though she wasn't serving on the board in recent years, she has consistently made donations toward our medical need dogs and has always been available to answer questions when we needed expert advice. Her passion for helping rescue animals was further demonstrated just recently when she established a 501(c)3 fund so the Macomb Animal Shelter could accept tax-deductible donations for the care of their animals. When Jill finally decided to retire she let us know she would like to become more involved again, and the timing was perfect - we were just beginning to talk about expanding our board. Everything happens for a reason, and now Jill is back on the board of CCRC, and she's jumping in with both feet. Jill's presence is making the transition of having Carl and Connie move away much smoother because she's stepping up anywhere and everywhere there is a need. We are so happy to have Jill fully involved and back on the board again! Please join us in welcoming Jill back as a full-time volunteer and board member, and also in thanking her for all of the things she has done, and plans to do, for CCRC. |

Georgette Kakares!!
She has been volunteering for CCRC since February 2009 and has fostered hundreds of puppies and small dogs from young to senior. If she has the space available, Georgette’s homes is always open to dogs in need. She gives exceptional care to her fosters, integrating them into her home and letting them hang out as one of the family along with her 3 personal doggies. She schedules their vet and adoption appointments, and personally makes sure they get everywhere they need to be while in her care. Georgette knows how to "make it happen"; in addition to fostering she has led many successful fundraising events which provide much-needed funds for the dogs with extra medical needs. The ideas Georgette comes up with always exceed expectations due to her creative talent and eye for detail. She is an amazing asset to the organization and we are very lucky to have Georgette as part of the CCRC team. Please join me in thanking her for all her hard work and dedication to the organization and the dogs! |

Courtney Chisholm!!
Courtney has been volunteering for CCRC since December 2014 and has fostered dozens of dogs, from adults to litters. One very lucky dog named Winter stole her heart, wouldn’t let it go, and became a permanent family member. She is very passionate about our mission to help save dogs and find them homes, and she has personally helped many adopters find their perfect dog through CCRC. She also works with one of our veterinarian partners, Advanced PetCare of Oakland, and assists with the office's foster program for CCRC dogs. She is active when she is at events and always engages people and helps spread adoption awareness. We are very lucky to have Courtney as part of our team, and very grateful for all that she does. |

A Tribute to Barb Hoffner
Our hearts are heavy at CCRC because Barb Hoffner passed away suddenly but peacefully in her sleep early in January. Barb first came to CCRC with her husband, Gene, in January of 2012. They jumped in with both feet, helping in a variety of areas including fostering, running around doing daily errands for the group, and helping at shows. It didn't take long for them to become "foster failures", an affectionate term used to describe fosters who end up adoption their foster dogs. That didn't stop them from fostering more dogs, though, or continuing to help in the other ways mentioned. Tragically, Gene had a heart attack in late 2013 and passed away. Barb stayed in touch with CCRC while taking time to grieve, and eventually offered to volunteer again. She took on our monthly newsletter, writing articles faithfully each month, and making sure the rest of us submitted our numbers and articles on time to get it published on the first of the month. It's hard to explain how much it means to us to find volunteers who not only offer to step up and help, but also take the initiative to see the job through without prompting or reminding. Barb was that kind of volunteer. We could completely relax and effectively forget about thenewsletter because we knew it would come out on time and well-written. Barb will be greatly missed, not just for her contributions, but for her friendship. Another of our volunteers, Nicole, was especially close to Barb and when she announced Barb's passing to the group she said, "There are no words to describe how much she loved helping CCRC....She's an angel and I don't know what life will be like without her." Those two sentences sum up two aspects of Barb perfectly - her love of dogs and volunteering for rescue, and the impact of her beautiful nature. |

Tom Seng!!
Tom has been volunteering for CCRC since August 2015. He jumped in with both feet and quickly became a regular face at adoption events and volunteering to help where needed. Tom is a true dog lover and it shows through his dedication to his fosters and the group. Tom has taken some harder to place dogs and also dogs with medical needs. There is never any doubt that when a dog goes to stay with Tom and his family, he/she will be doted on, cared for and loved. He is very welcoming to the public at the adoption events and always friendly with the other volunteers. Tom joining the CCRC family has been very positive for our mission in helping homeless animals and we look forward to many years to come. Please join me in thanking Tom for all of his good work. |

Margaret Fleck!!
Margaret, as many of you know, is Carl Fleck's mother. Carl, his wife Connie, and Wendy Kopera comprise the board of CCRC and are the original founders from 2004. Margaret has been instrumental in many aspects of the daily work of CCRC. Volunteering is in the Fleck family tradition, and Margaret is invaluable to the organization. By making flyers and adoption folders or just giving comfort to our rescued animals, she is a vital member of our volunteer group. Please join us in saying a very big THANK YOU to Margaret for her dedicated service to the dogs. |

Domino! Some of you may be thinking why would a cat be the volunteer of the month with a dog rescue? One of the most frequent questions we are asked by potential adopters is "does the dog I want to adopt get along well with cats?" This is where Domino comes in. In very controlled and safe settings, Domino has helped cat test 100's of dogs over the years helping countless pups find their forever homes. His calm, friendly demeanor and "dog savvy" skills have made him an important member of the CCRC family. Remember that along with dogs, cats can make great pets and there are thousands in need of homes in shelters across the country. Cary Godwin and Adrian Jackson!!
Cary joined CCRC in 2011 when, as a long-time pitbull advocate, she fell in love with a blind, CCRC pitbull puppy named Zim and welcomed him into her home along with her other doggies. Since then she has been a consistent foster for both puppies and adults. She always steps up to help if she is able - whether it is leading fundraising efforts, transporting dogs in need, or helping out at adoption events. Adrian joined CCRC a few years ago and has also been a valuable volunteer participating in all of the above. Their positive attitude and welcoming presence is a great asset to CCRC, its volunteers, and the dogs. Adrian and Cary take excellent care of their dogs and all their fosters. We have enjoyed the years of working with both of them and look forward to many years to come. Please join us in thanking Cary and Adrian for all they do for CCRC, and for volunteering to become our coordinators for new volunteers. We also want to congratulate them on their recent engagement, and wish them a future full of happiness! |

Vyctoria Sanborn!!
Vyctoria joined CCRC in the beginning of 2015 and instantly became a consistent foster and a familiar face at many of our adoption events. Vyctoria treats her fosters as one of her own and has gone very few days this year without a foster friend for her own dog, Lily, to play with. We can always count on Vyctoria to have her foster at events, and to be able to talk personally about all of the dog's traits, likes, and dislikes. Vyctoria has stepped up multiple times to take on a special needs dogs and has done a wonderful job with all of them. We are really excited that she has joined our team and that she shares our passion to help the dogs and place them into wonderful homes. We know Vyctoria will be instrumental in helping us save more lives in the future! Please join us in thanking her for doing such a wonderful job! |

Dan and Donna joined CCRC in 2009 and have been immersed in many of our activities ever since. Dan helps with his handyman skills, dog transportation, managing food and supplies and much more. Donna is a genius at her sewing machine, making our volunteer's T-Shirts, adoption vests and beds for the dogs and much more. They open their home to countless foster dogs and work with those rescues that might need some additional training to make them better pets for the future adopters. They are tireless promoters of CCRC and we are fortunate to have them as members of our group. Please join us in saying a very big THANK YOU to the Simko's for all that they do. |

Nicole and Evan are part of many animal related organizations and are very devoted to living a cruelty free lifestyle. They have fostered dozens of dogs - small, large, sick, pregnant - you name it, when a dog is in need they open their home. One very lucky dog, CJ, moved into their hearts as well as their home and was able to join their two other dogs as a member of their family. Since 2011, Nicole and Evan have not gone 24 hours without housing at least one special animal waiting for a its forever home. CCRC is extremely lucky to have both of them part of the rescue family. To top it all off her husband, Dave, is the lead veterinarian Michigan Humane Society-Rochester, and Lindsay has worked there as well! Lindsay and her husband have both offered their time, talents, and even their property for the benefit of our rescue dogs even though they are very busy raising twin girls and a baby boy. In addition to all of that, Lindsay regularly helps with transports, maintaining our database, and doing adoptions at shows. Both she and Dave are an absolute wealth of knowledge and talent, and they are valuable resources for our group on a number of levels. Please join me in extending a big “Thank you” to the Emery’s on behalf of CCRC and the doggies! |

They have fostered numerous dogs and found them all great homes. Gene always volunteered to help with transporting dogs in need and was a regular at the adoption events. Barb has assisted in the database entry and always volunteers for behind the scenes opportunities. Barb leads the monthly e-blast and coordinates and assembles all the material. Without Barb leading that effort, it would not be the success it is. Please join me in extending a big “Thank you” to the Hoffner’s on behalf of CCRC and the doggies! |

Brooke Swindlehurst!!
Brooke joined CCRC in December of 2009 and it's probably safe to say she has not gone more than 48 hours without a foster in all those years! Helping animals in need is not only a priority, but part of her everyday life. Brooke is always willing to drive near and far to pick up dogs, and will drop whatever she is doing to assist in completing an adoption. Her heart is open to all breeds and all ages and she fully dedicates herself to each and every dog she brings into her home. Brooke has cared for some very sick dogs and puppies, but always manages to keep her spirits up and step up for the next special needs case. Brooke has attended the vast majority of our adoption events, large and small, during her years with us and we are looking forward to many more years to come! CCRC is very fortunate to have her as part of our team; she has made a huge difference for the dogs! Since then, she has continued to welcome dogs into her home and always makes them available for adoption. She created the CCRC tri-fold for special events and always steps up to assist in fundraising for the group. Stephanie has volunteered and followed through with structuring and leading the New Volunteer Training program to help transition the new volunteers into the world of CCRCJ The retention of volunteers since Stephanie has been assisting in almost 100%. Debbie Dunn!!!
Debbie joined CCRC in 2008 and has been a key volunteer for many years. She is always very active in CCRC fundraisers, never missing an opportunity to raise funds for the doggies. Debbie leads the 4th of July Parade from start to finish and that is a huge undertaking to say the least. She created and continues to maintain the Adoptees Page on Facebook and communicates daily with hundreds of CCRC adopters. There are very few weeks in the year that Debbie’s house is not being used as a temporary home for a dog in need, from little special needs dogs, to puppies and pregnant dogs, etc. Debbie’s heart is big enough to accommodate all of them- not at the same time though;) Two very lucky dogs call Debbie mom and help with the fostering. CCRC is very lucky to have Debbie as part of the family and is looking forward to many more years to come helping our fosters find their forever homes. Please join me in extending a big “Thank you” to Debbie Dunn for all she does! |

She leads the Christmas newsletter mailings that generates thousands in donations for the dogs and also creates and assembles one of CCRC most successful yearly fundraisers, the CCRC calendar. On top of all her projects, Rachael is a compassionate and dedicated foster. Her home always welcomes senior dogs and special needs doggies. We always know, when a dog needs special treatment, Rachael’s house will be waiting. Two very lucky fosters have been able to call Rachael “Mom” forever! Her heart is one-of-a-kind, expanding into being involved in a cat rescue group and working with needy kids as her day job. Please join me in extending a big “Thank you” to Rachael Brown for all she does! |

Melissa Swindlehurst!!
Missy joined CCRC in 2009 with her daughter Brooke and both have been very active volunteers for our group. Missy is an extremely dedicated foster and volunteer. She is on-call all hours of the day and night to aid in treating gravely ill dogs or puppies. In addition to the time she spends transporting our dogs to and from vet appointments and juggling multiple CCRC responsibilities, she also dedicates her professional life to animals. Missy is a Veterinarian Technician at Airport Veterinary Hospital, which is also a CCRC partner, thanks to Missy’s recommendation and hard work. There is no doubt that Missy continues to go above and beyond when it comes to the animals that come into her life. She has fostered many dogs for CCRC (not always easy ones!), and two very lucky fosters have made her pack their forever home. Missy is an extremely valuable member of the CCRC family and we are lucky to have her dedication and passion. In fact, it’s fair to say we couldn’t do all we currently do without her. Please join me in extending a big “Thank you” to Missy Swindlehurst for all she does! |

Chris Meier!!
Chris joined CCRC in 2004 when the group first started! She has worn many hats in the organization and still does on a daily basis. Chris is an extremely dedicated puppy foster and is able to spend the time with each individual puppy that she welcomes into her home to get to know their little personalities. She also has opened her home to dozens of adults over the years. Chris is one of CCRC's many foster failures having adopted 3 of CCRC's dogs. She writes personal thank you notes for all donations, does data entry for all adoptions, and manages all paperwork for CCRC, storing all rabies certificates and adoption applications. People are unaware of how labor-intensive all of this work is, and Chris has done it for many years never seeking recognition or complaining about the countless hours she spends doing it. She deserves a big round of applause with a standing ovation!! CCRC has hit the jackpot with her and appreciates over a decade of dedication to the group and to the dogs. Chris has played a major part in helping make CCRC what it is today. Please join me in extending a big “Thank you” to Chris Meier for all she does! |

Bob, Deanna, Dakota!!
Bob, Deanna and Dakota joined CCRC in 2005. They have dedicated almost 10 years to CCRC and to all the dogs that have been lucky enough to have called their house their temporary (or permanent!) home. With outstanding dedication to their fosters and to the group, through the happy and sad, their family has always stood behind the rescue mission and they have continued to devote their energy to the dogs in need. From everything to dressing up as Santa for the dogs, being the CCRC repairman, transporting dogs into our rescue, to welcoming hundreds of fosters with open arms, this family has always been in the front lines to do whatever is needed to get the job done. Deanna was also able to land a substantial donation from her employer for being the regional volunteer, and their family also holds the crown for foster failing! With a special love for labs and cockers, a number of dogs have been fortunate to permanently win their hearts over and call their house their forever home! We are honored to have them as part of the CCRC family and look forward to many years more in working together for the dogs! Please join me in extending a big “Thank you” to Bob, Deanna and Dakota for all that they do! |

They have taken on their share of urgent dogs in need and are always ready, with open arms, to step up to the next challenge. They have lost many hours of sleep, dedicated numerous hours of free time to their fosters and on several occasions, tears of joy and sadness have been shed- all while remaining positive in their mission to help homeless dogs.
