CCRC has done everything possible to make sure our dogs are healthy at the time of adoption.  We provide standard wormings, spay and neuter the pet, give all age-appropriate shots including bordetella for kennel cough, and we treat any known illness or pest.  If we know of any ongoing issues, we will disclose it. However, with new dogs and pups coming into our rescue and potentially exposing our existing dogs with illness every day, we needed to do even more.  Our dogs needed one final check up after they left us, when there is no chance they would be exposed to any new illness from our other dogs, so anything that might still be lingering can be found and treated once and for all giving our adopters a clean start with their new dog.

To meet this need we offer our adopters a free vet visit with one of our vet partners within one week after adopters bring their new dog home.  The list of our vet partners can be found on this page. At that visit, the vet will do an exam and a fecal test which will be billed to us, and there may be additional services listed on the Vet Authorization form that is given to all adopters at the time of adoption, so read it carefully.  If something routine (i.e. worms or kennel cough) shows up at that exam, the vet will provide treatment at our expense.  If something major (i.e. anything requiring a large expense or surgery) is found, we ask that you call us to discuss options. It is our policy to offer a full refund during the first 30 days after adoption - for any reason - so you always have that safety net as well.

Another thing we do to try to ensure you get a healthy dog is to hold puppies for 10 days before we show or adopt them.  Most serious illnesses will show up during that time, and if they do we treat the pup.  It is possible, though rare, that a puppy will appear healthy during that time and end up becoming sick after it is adopted.  In this case, we ask that you contact us immediately to discuss how to move forward.  We cannot be responsible for costs that are not approved in advance other than those stated on the Vet Authorization found in your adoption folder.

We have been in business for over 10 years and have developed relationships with specific vets who offer discounts which allow us to continue to treat these rescue dogs and bring them up to date medically.  Without the discounts, the cost would be prohibitive and we simply couldn't do it.  For that reason, we ONLY cover costs for the free vet visits if it is with one of our approved vet partners. You are welcome to use any vet you would like, but if it is not one of our partners, we can not cover the cost.  If you live far away it might not be worth the time and gas, but we encourage you to take advantage of the free visit if at all possible because it could save you well over $100 or even more.  If your dog or pup becomes ill within a week of adoption, please make your free appointment with one of our vets.  If there is an emergency and one of our vets cannot be reached, PLEASE contact us for alternatives.  If you go to an unauthorized vet or an emergency vet without prior authorization from us we cannot be held responsible for the cost.
